Toxic: BookMyShow Disables Audience Ratings

Toxic is facing another unusual development after its release. The audience ratings and reviews for Yash’s film are no longer visible on BookMyShow, and this time there is an important reason mentioned directly on the platform.

BookMyShow’s current listing for Toxic says “Ratings & Reviews disabled as per court order.” This is significant because social media was already filled with claims that the ratings had been removed after the film received a poor response from viewers. However, the platform’s own listing points to the court order instead.

The development goes back to the legal action initiated by the makers before the film’s release. A Bengaluru court had passed an interim order restricting certain forms of false, malicious, defamatory or derogatory content related to the film. A YouTuber has also reportedly received a legal notice over his review.

Now, the impact of that legal order can be seen directly on BookMyShow, where audiences can still see the film’s details and show timings, but the ratings and reviews section has been disabled.

That makes the Toxic situation unusual. The film is fighting a battle on two different fronts-its box office performance and the conversation around audience response.

And for now, viewers visiting BookMyShow simply cannot see the rating that was previously displayed for the film.
