Trade Talk: Ghani Proves That Again

Varun Tej worked hard on his boxing drama Ghani but the film has hit a roadblock on the second day of its release itself. The collections are so poor that some of the screens allocated for Ghani in Telugu states were given back for RRR from the matinee shows today.

In the U.S too, the film has made just $77K from the premiere and Friday shows combined which shows how badly the film has struggled. On the other hand, RRR has made $150K on Friday and will rake in decent numbers during the weekend.

The break even figure for Ghani is around 25 crores share which is quite huge for Varun Tej. By the way the film is performing, it will be very difficult.

Firstly, the sport of boxing is not familiar to the Telugu audience and Ghani needed much drama and fresh screenplay to make it work for Telugu audience.

With Ghani’s failure, it has been once again proved that sports dramas are hard to execute and connect with the audiences. Ghani had not only poor content but timing of its release was also equally bad.

This is also the reason, the trade labels sports dramas to be risky ventures to invest in. The same was proved with Keerthy Suresh’s last film Good Luck Sakhi which was based on shooting and flopped badly.
