Uppena Posing Threat To Akkineni’s Record

The new kid on the block from Mega family, Vaisshnav Tej is all set to surprise many. At least that is what the trade is expecting going by the expectations, and the release Uppena is getting. If all goes as anticipated, Uppena could threaten the long-standing Akkineni Akhil’s record for debut opening.

Akhil’s debut, Akhil which hit cinemas during the Diwali 2015 is the record holder for the ‘best debut movie opening’. It has collected nearly 7.5 Cr during that time. The next best is Chirutha and Alludu Seenu.

The second-best opening for Uppena is a given looking at the buzz. It would open above 5 Cr for sure. The occupancy is back to 100 percent, and the rates are getting hiked across all the areas. The release is also huge for a debut movie. Will all these culminate in the unique feat needs to be seen.

A year ago, when Uppena was initially slated to release (April 2020), none expected it to open this bigger. The long delay has worked to its advantage. The post-corona reception from the audience for various movies also augers well for its box office prospects.

As mentioned previously, not only the opening day but the long-run record for the highest debut grosser is also up for grabs.

Uppena is helmed by first-timer Buchi Babu Sana. It also marks the debut of heroine Krithi Shetty. The versatile Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi plays a key role. Mythri Movie Makers produce the romantic drama set to hit the screens in a big way on February 12th.
