US BO: One Success And Multiple Failures, Few Shocks

Yet another week and it is clear that we are not going to have sunshine at the box office in the US. Akhil’s latest release Mr Majnu is not doing anything exceptional. There were hopes based on the last film of the director Venky Atluri, but it has not transpired as expected.

The lack of success isn’t coming as a surprise as the last few months have been terrible at the US box office barring a few. Obviously, the biggest one from Telugu has been F2. It is one true blockbuster movie. Leave that aside, and we have to go as back as Geetha Govindam to find the last such monster success.

In the last few months, some high expected films from medium to low budgets like Anatariksham 9000KMPH, Padi Padi Leche Manasu, Amar Akbar Anthony and others have failed. What further made things worse was the shocking performance from a few biggies, the worse of which was Vinaya Vidheya Rama.

It looks like the same trend might be continuing in the near future as well, as there seems to be nothing exciting on the horizon for the US audience. If we look immediately only, NTR Mahanayakudu comes to mind, but even that doesn’t look that promising given the reception to the first part. There are always some unexpected small surprises. Here’s hoping they arrive sooner to rejuvenate the market.
