US BO: One Washout, One Block Buster

Four films came to theatres for this Sankranthi to benefit from the festival release, and one among them turned out into a blockbuster and one a washout. The clear winner is Trivikram – Bunny’s ‘Ala Vaikumthapurramloo‘ grossed $2.1 Million so-far.

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo was sold for a lesser price, i.e., a very reasonable price when compared to Mahesh Babu’s Sarileru Neekevvaru’ grossed $1.9 Million so-far. Moreover, Trivikram Srinivas is the favorite for the overseas audiences and his combination with the star hero was like an icing on the cake.

The word of mouth, the pricing strategy and good reviews helped the Allu Arjun starrer, big time. ‘Sarileru Neekevvaru’ looks a bit behind due to higher prices shelled for Mahesh’s movie by the overseas distributors.

Though Rajinikanth’s ‘Darbar’ isn’t a hit movie, it settled for a decent gross in the US ($1.5 Million). So, it’s Kalyan Ram’s ‘Entha Manchivadavura’ ($15 K) that’s a washout at the US box-office with meager collections that would be unable to recover even the expenses.
