Is Kalyan Ram the Right Choice for Anil Ravipudi-Venky Film?

Director Anil Ravipudi has officially begun work on his much-awaited multistarrer featuring Venkatesh and Kalyan Ram being produced by Sahu Garapati. To announce the start of the shoot, the makers released a special promotional video that quickly went viral on social media.

In the clip, the director arrives carrying a large sword gifted by his fans. Venkatesh takes the sword, playfully cuts Anil Ravipudi’s thumb, and applies a “Veera Tilakam” on his forehead using the blood. Kalyan Ram follows suit, creating a humorous and over-the-top moment that is typical of Anil Ravipudi’s brand of entertainment.

While the video received decent response, it also triggered an interesting discussion among movie fans.

A few social media users felt that Kalyan Ram struggled to match Venkatesh’s comic timing in the announcement video. Venkatesh is widely regarded as one of finest actors when it comes to comedy. Against such a performer, almost any actor can appear less effective.

Comments such as “Venkatesh pakkana Kalyan Ram telipotunnadu” and “Comedy ante Kalyan Ram ki kastam laage undi” started appearing across social media platforms. Some argued that Kalyan Ram’s strength lies more in mass-action roles rather than comedy.

In comedy films, reactions are as important as punchlines. If one performer dominates while the other struggles, the humor can fall flat.

That said, judging an entire film based on a short video may be premature.

Anil Ravipudi knows Kalyan Ram better than most directors. After all, it was Kalyan Ram who introduced Anil Ravipudi as a director through Pataas which was a big hit. If Anil Ravipudi has chosen Kalyan Ram, it means he knows exactly what Kalyan Ram is capable of.

Many people initially doubted combinations like Venkatesh-Varun Tej in F2. Those concerns eventually disappeared once audiences watched the final product.

We have to see how Anil Ravipudi ensures that Kalyan Ram can surprise audiences by showcasing his comic side as an actor. If he succeeds, the film could benefit enormously from the contrast between the two actors.

If not, the backlash that surfaced after the announcement video may continue even after the film’s release.
