Vidya Balan recalls hotel room encounter
Vidya Balan’s latest film Jailer 2 has released today on October 15, 2026. Amid all the Rajinikanth hungama, Vidya Balan has recalled an uncomfortable incident from her early career when a director allegedly insisted on meeting her inside a hotel room instead of a public place. The actress said she handled the situation carefully and avoided a potentially unpleasant experience.
Recalling the incident, Vidya said she was in Chennai when a director came to meet her. She suggested discussing the matter at a coffee shop, but he insisted on meeting inside a room because he wanted to speak privately.
Vidya Balan said she was alone at the time and did not understand why the director was so determined to meet her in a room. However, she decided to be cautious.
When they entered the hotel room, the actress deliberately left the door open. According to Vidya, the director understood the situation and realized he could not proceed with whatever he had in mind. He reportedly left within five minutes.
Vidya said she did not consider the incident a direct experience of the casting couch, but it remained an uncomfortable memory. She also revealed that she was later dropped from the film.
The incident highlights the uncomfortable situations women can face while trying to establish themselves in the film industry. The casting couch has long been a subject of discussion, with aspiring actresses sometimes facing inappropriate demands from people in positions of power.
Vidya’s response shows how she prioritized her safety without directly confronting the director. Although she eventually lost the film, her account raises questions about the pressures women can face when professional opportunities involve private meetings and potential abuse of power.
