Today Vijay Deverakonda’s new film announcement directed by Shouryuv took everyone by surprise and has quickly become a talking point on social media. Given Shouryuv’s soft and emotional storytelling in Hi Nanna, this new film appears far more ambitious than expected.
Interestingly, this project was originally written and designed for a mass superstar like Jr. NTR. However, with NTR occupied by other commitments, he had to step away. Reports suggest that the same film has now been reworked to suit Vijay Deverakonda.
The makers have reportedly brought in VFX specialist Eric Durst, whose credits include Spider Man 2, Gods of Egypt, and The Batman. On the cinematography front, Alejandro Martínez, known for Fallout and House of the Dragon, has been roped in. These are far from routine choices. They strongly signal an intent to achieve scale, visual depth, and a level of technical polish that goes beyond standard commercial setups.
The announcement poster further reinforces this film is leaning heavily into action and a more aggressive narrative space.
This project also arrives at a crucial point in Vijay Deverakonda’s career. After a string of disasters and bad choices, he appears to be extra careful about his script selections. His current lineup, including Rana Baali with Rahul Sankrityan, Rowdy Janardhana with Ravi Kiran Kola, and now a film with Shouryuv moves away from the typical safe commercial template.
A noticeable pattern here is his choice of directors. All three are relatively young and still establishing themselves, yet they bring a certain fire, hunger, and clarity. More importantly, they are expected to be in tune with the sensibilities of today’s Gen Z audience, which now drives a significant share of theatrical footfall. If that alignment works, it could play strongly in Vijay’s favor.
For Shouryuv, this film marks both a step up and a test. He has already proven his ability to handle emotion with Hi Nanna, but this is an entirely different challenge. Scaling up in terms of action, visual storytelling, and commercial appeal is not just about budget. It demands control and clarity. At the same time, he carries the added responsibility of rebuilding Vijay’s on-screen image, especially his mass appeal, which has taken a heavy beating in recent years.
If Shouryuv can balance emotional depth with strong, high impact moments, the film has the potential to redefine both their career paths. If not, it risks becoming another misstep, something Vijay Deverakonda cannot afford at this stage of his career. And with a story originally conceived for NTR, the lingering question remains whether Vijay can deliver that level of high voltage performance.
