Was ‘I’ court case a publicity stunt?

24 hours after Madras High Court passed an interim stay on the release of Vikram’s ‘I’, court revoked its decision after both the parties had reached an amicable decision. This has raised a lot of eyebrows about the genuineness in the case in the first place as everything seems like a publicity stunt. Maybe the makers of the film followed the conventional path of making some noise by creating controversy. Any kind of publicity is good for films because it piques the curiosity of the audience to find out more about what they heard or read.

The company which filed the case on Thursday, out of the blue, announced Friday that all issues between them and the makers of forthcoming Tamil magnum opus “I” have been amicably settled and they wholeheartedly support the release of the film Jan 14. They said that issues whatsoever were only business oriented and it was mutually discussed and we arrived on a compromise on the best interest of the film industry. We wish the film, the artistes, the technicians, the producers and the exhibitors best of success.

Going by all this, one can be certain that the makers indeed tried to cash in on the situation and got themselves maximum media mileage. Let’s wait to find out if this publicity stunt was worth it or not when the film releases. The makers have planned a red carpet release of the film in maximum screens across the globe and it’s believed that ‘I’ will release in record number of screens in US and China.
