Whatsapp shock: fines up to $68,000

United Arab Emirates is known to have some of the strictest laws in the world. It has recently come to light that UAE has put in place a new law which forbids the people to use foul language on the instant messaging app, Whatsapp.

According to this law, people guilty of violating this law may find themselves facing a fine of Dh250,000 which amounts to 68,061 dollars and even an imprisonment.

This law was passed by the The Federal Supreme Court of the UAE during the process of punishing a man who was found swearing on Whatsapp. This man was ordered to pay Dh10,000 that is $2722.46 as a compensation to the woman he insulted. When the man questioned this judgement, the UAE Supreme Court intervened and passed this law making foul language on Whatsapp a punishable offense across the entirety of UAE.
