The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Unit has apprehended YouTuber Vijay Chandrahasan Deverakanda for allegedly trolling and defaming actor Vishnu Manchu, who serves as the president of the Movie Artists Association (MAA) in the Telugu film industry.
The case came to light following a complaint by MAA treasurer and actor Siva Balaji.
In an official statement, police revealed that a case (FIR NO: 1942/2024) was registered under sections 66 C and D of the IT Act, as well as section 351(2) BNS, based on Siva Balaji’s complaint.
Inspector K. Madhulatha, leading the investigation, took swift action, issuing a notice and apprehending the accused.
The police explained that Deverakanda had been repeatedly targeting and defaming Vishnu Manchu and his production house through various social media platforms, particularly his YouTube channel.
He allegedly posted false and derogatory content, aiming to damage Manchu’s reputation and that of the MAA. His motives appear to revolve around increasing his channel’s viewership and possibly achieving other unknown goals.
The offensive videos uploaded by the accused contained abusive language and defamatory remarks about several film industry figures, with Vishnu Manchu being a prime target.
The victim provided authorities with key evidence, including URLs and social media details, requesting appropriate legal action.
