Zanzeer gets relief from High Court

Amit Mehra’s upcoming film Zanjeer, a remake of the 1973 Amitabh Bacchan starrer of the same name, had come across some problems regarding its release but last Wednesday the Bombay High Court removed the restraints on its publication. It was Justice RD Dhanuka who set aside the interim order passed by a single judge and let Adai Mehra Productions remake the film.

The disagreement over the remake was due to the fight between brothers Amit Mehra, Sumeet Mehra and Puneet Mehra. Amit Mehra, owner of Adai Mehra productions Pvt Ltd, had purchased the rights for remaking Zanzeer in Hindi and Telugu from PMP (Prakash Mehra Productions), which is owned by the three Mehra brothers and hence PMP claimed to be the owner of all rights of Zanzeer.

Later on Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar who were the writers in the original film claimed that they were the proprietors of the rights of the screenplay and the literary work. The matter between PMP and his son’s production house was referred for resolution. In the end the film can finally proceed from the High Court provided the remaining dues are paid within eight weeks.
