Reportedly, these 400 theaters are temporarily shut down in view of the low audience turnout. With theater management cost spiking up, the low turnout is said to be incurring losses to the exhibitors.
As per reports, many of the recent releases reported as few as 10 head count per show on the opening day itself, which inflicts negative share right from the starting day.
Running a single show in an AC theater costs Rs 5000 and in non-AC theatres, it costs Rs 2000. The cleaning and other miscellaneous costs are extra. With such high expenses, the low turnout and revenues are said to have forced theater managements to shut operations temporarily.
These theaters are expected to resume operations this Dasara or next Sankranthi when big hero films will be back.
