43.81% of Vijayawada’s Population infected by Coronavirus

A Serosurveillance survey conducted in Vijayawada to find out the severity of Coronavirus revealed shocking facts. At least 40% of the City’s population is estimated to have got infected by the Coronavirus. From 6th to 15th of this month. Serosurveillance survey was collected. 1,80,000 samples were collected from Vijayawada and 6,000 samples have traces of the virus.

The samples were taken from all classes of the people. The data was extrapolated to determine that 43.81% of the city was infected. The samples were collected from people who claim they have no doubt about the infection. 40.51% have got the virus and recovered without knowing about it. Remaining 3.3% got tested themselves after they got symptoms.

This also has good news that many cases do not require hospitalization and people have antibodies to fight the virus within their bodies. This is actually good but at the same time, people should not drop their guard since asymptomatic cases can still infect other people who may not have immunity to fight the disease themselves.

Serosurveillance provides estimates of antibody levels against infectious diseases and is considered the gold standard for measuring population immunity due to past infection. The total number of Corona cases in Andhra Pradesh crossed Three Lakhs. The contagious virus so far claimed 3,000 lives in the state.
