Amaravati – First Walkable City in India

The designs submitted by British architect firm Foster and Partners for the upcoming capital Amaravati has a walkable city among the nine integral components. To make the upcoming city more livable, the capital city will have 53% green cover with 10% water coverage and 21% roads.

The plan also targets to reduce carbon emission by 35-40% with an unmanned electric bus network along the central spine. Besides, space has been created for electric vehicles, bicycles, pedestrian routes and water taxis.

If these are well implemented, Amaravati will become the most livable city in the country. Foster and Partners are currently involved in preparing the final design for the permanent government complex and are likely to submit the final plan in about three weeks.
