Amaravati: Iconic Bridge Design Finalised

The Andhra Pradesh government is moving forward with plans to construct the Iconic cable bridge in Amaravati. Chief Minister Chandrababu has finalised the bridge’s design. Earlier, CRDA had uploaded four design options for public voting.

The second design received the highest number of votes, with 14,000 people supporting it. Interestingly, this model was also preferred by Chandrababu. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been finalised. The bridge will connect N13 road in Amaravati to NH65, with an estimated cost of ₹2,500 crore. Tenders will be invited soon.

The chosen design features red and white colours, two pylons, and a hand mudra representing the swastika from the Kuchipudi dance form. Nipping Koei has prepared the DPR. The bridge will include six lanes to accommodate future traffic, along with two separate lanes for pedestrians.

This cable bridge will stretch 5.22 km, linking Rayapudi in Amaravati to Mulapadu in NTR district, close to NH65. It aims to significantly improve connectivity and reduce travel time.

Back in 2019, the TDP government had laid the foundation stone for an Iconic bridge from N10 to Sangam, costing ₹1,387 crore. However, the project was not continued by the Jagan government. After returning to power, the Chandrababu government decided to change the location, especially after building the western bypass.

Currently, travelling from NH65 to Amaravati takes around 40 km and is often congested during peak hours. The upcoming bridge will ease traffic and reduce travel time considerably.

Once operational, travellers entering from Mulapadu can reach Amaravati in just 5 km. This saves nearly 1.5 hours of travel time. The bridge will conclude at the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway, offering connectivity towards both Vijayawada and Hyderabad. A trumpet interchange will also be constructed at this point to streamline movement.
