Apple and Google’s Joint Venture to Battle COVID-19

Leading Tech Giants – Apple and Google’s Alphabet are going to work together to create contact tracing technology that aims to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The system will allow users to opt into a system that catalogs other phones they have been near.

Both companies have the credit of making the world’s dominant smartphone operating systems for iPhones and Android devices. So, this technology when developed can be easily rolled out to the majority of people across the globe. The new technology will allow mobile devices to trade information via Bluetooth connections to alert people when they have been in close proximity to Corona Positive People.

The government of India rolled out an app called Arogya Setu which serves a similar purpose but this joint venture technology is expected to be more effective. They will deploy the tracking technology directly into their underlying operating systems in the coming months so that users do not have to download any apps.

At the time of writing this report, there are 17,77,515 Coronavirus cases with 1,08,862 deaths. Both Apple and Alphabet have their headquarters in the United States which has become the epicenter of these cases.
