Ayesha Meera Will Be Laid To Rest, Is It Justice?

There is a saying justice delayed is justice denied. That is apt for Ayesha Meera who was brutally raped and murdered in 2007.

Ayesha was barely 17 and half years old and she was studying B Pharmacy. The case created a sensation in combined Andhra Pradesh as her body was found in the bathroom. The rapist and murderer left a note saying that Ayesha was raped and murdered for turning down his love proposal.

Despite the note, the case did not see the accused punished. While P Satyam Babu was alleged of murder, he involved the name of Koneru Satish, son of former Deputy CM Koneru Ranga Rao.

Over the years, the accused were never sentenced and the CBI Court in Vijayawada struck down the case for lack of evidence six days back. On Friday, the remains of her body have been handed over to the victim’s family for final cremation.

Ayesha’s remains will finally find their resting place. But is this justice? What was the mistake of a young girl who was barely 18?

The Court advised Ayesha’s parents to pursue the case privately if they wanted. However, unable to afford the costs and tired of waiting for justice, the family chose closure.

Ayesha’s mother Shamshad Begum maintains that justice was denied to them as they belong to a minority community. But the bigger question is about letting a rapist and murderer go free despite the person leaving a note.

Justice got lost in Ayesha’s story.
