Which Way Will BRS Tilt in Vice President Election

The BJP government has announced CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the vice president post. The move came as a surprise and is being viewed as a strategy to appeal to Tamil Nadu voters before the Assembly elections in the southern state.

In Telangana, attention has shifted to regional party BRS. Since the NDA holds a majority in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha electoral college, Radhakrishnan’s victory is nearly certain. BJP leaders are still aiming for unanimous support as Rajnath Singh reached out to regional party chiefs.

The Congress, which is the main opposition, is contesting the election as well. The September 9 polls have gained significance in Telangana as political circles closely watch the stance of BRS and AIMIM on the vice president vote.

The situation for BRS has changed after a weak performance in the recent Parliament elections. Currently, the party holds four seats in the Rajya Sabha. Its reduced strength has raised doubts about its influence in the upcoming contest.

At the same time, BRS is grappling with internal challenges. Telangana Congress has mounted serious pressure while speculation of a backdoor tie-up with BJP has caused more uncertainty within the party’s ranks.

Adding to this, local body elections are approaching. In 2022, BRS supported the I.N.D.I.A bloc candidate. This time, however, the stakes are higher and analysts believe KCR’s decision in the vice president election could shape his party’s future in the state.

Meanwhile, AIMIM has one member in Parliament, Asaduddin Owaisi. Although AIMIM is aligned with Congress in Telangana, the party remains opposed to Congress at the national level, leaving Owaisi’s vote under speculation.

Whether KCR chooses to support the BJP-backed candidate or takes a different stand remains a key question that political observers are closely following.
