BRS To Be Disqualified Till 2036?

It is known that the Comptroller and Auditor General of India(CAG) had recently reported that there are many financial irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project, taken up by the BRS government. This kept the BRS in bad light in the public.

Now, Congress veteran, V Hanumantha Rao is trying to use this CAG report to legally trouble BRS as he has called for disqualification of BRS till 2035-36.

Rao wrote a letter to the Election Commission today in which he mentioned that the CAG report clearly stated that the BRS government borrowed Rs 1,41,544 crores through various institutions and the total repayment debt stands at Rs 2,52,048 crores. He mentioned that this move from BRS government has added extreme financial distress to the Telangana exchequer.

“I strongly feel that the Election Commission must have the power to deregister a political party that is involved in corruption. This will send strong signals to other parties in the future not to misuse public funds. I request you to bar BRS from contesting in any election till the debts are recollected or at least till 2035-36.” Hanumantha Rao wrote in the letter to the EC.

Will the EC actually take up this case and disqualify BRS? This looks very farfetched but the letter, in itself works against the public image of BRS, which is the main aim of Hanumantha Rao.
