The Central Government is planning to begin the long-delayed Census in 2025. The Census was supposed to happen in 2021 but was delayed due to the Pandemic.
Once the Census is done, it will be followed by delimitation of Lok Sabha seats by 2028.
The delimitation is an extremely important exercise, and the Telugu Desam Party and its allies are very lucky to be in power at this time.
The last delimitation happened in 2008 when YSR was in power.
YSR broke several TDP strongholds and made many constituencies favorable to Congress. UPA being in power at the Center made things easy for YSR.
It is interesting to note that in the 2008 delimitation, YSR took away a Mandal from the Kuppam constituency and added in a neighboring constituency. The Mandal is TDP’s Stronghold and since then, Naidu’s majority has taken a hit.
Now, Chandrababu Naidu is in a similar position.
The NDA at the Center is dependent on the TDP’s Sixteen MPs so, he will have a strong say in the delimitation process.
The delimitation will redraw the boundaries of various constituencies, resulting in drastically different dynamics that will impact the outcome of future elections.
The TDP cadre is upbeat about it and demands that Pulivendula be broken similarly or made a reserved constituency.
