Finally, Center Gives Legal Sanctity to AP’s Special Package

In what can be termed as a huge relief for the state government and Andhra Pradesh, Union Cabinet approved the Special Assistance Package to the state which includes funding for Externally Aided Projects & Irrigation component of Polavaram project.

This approval gives legal sanctity to the Special Package and the Center will be binding to adhere to those promises. This Special Package was offered in the lieu of Special Status promise which the BJP led Central Government could not give. The financial loss due to Special Status will be covered through EAPs.

The Special Package was announced in September 2016 and Center has taken all these months to give it the legal sanctity which put BJP’s alliance partner, TDP in lots of trouble politically. The Special Package which was taken as the third table item was passed unanimously.
