Center’s Neglect Continues to Plague Polavaram

Polavaram Project seems to be still in shambles. National Project Status in AP Reorganization Act and the Special Package Promise are still short of doing any good to the project which is considered as the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh. Even months after the Special Package announcement, the center did not announce the funding structure for the Project.

A couple of meetings with the Center and state officials have resulted in no clarity. Union Water Resources Ministry officials are saying ‘Can’t Help’ terming that the issue had to be finalized by the Finance Ministry. Earlier Arun Jaitley proposed to execute the project through loans from NABARD and the latter also agreed to that.

NABARD and Finance Ministry have to enter into an MOU regarding the funding for this project, quantum of the assistance and the timing of funds refusal. But this did not happen until now giving rise to the commitment of the center over this project. This kind of attitude when people are coming in terms with the Special Package will be dangerous BJP.
