Naidu Keeps Casino Culture Waiting

As the State government is gearing up to give the Metropolitan Facelift for Vijayawada, Several Casino Operators are eager to set shop in Krishna district. A US NRI from Vijayawada is proposing a casino on an island in the Krishna river. The Casio will have a club where gambling, eateries, amusement and entertainment venues are open round the clock.

Goa, Daman, and Sikkim operates Casinos as of now and they are huge revenue spinners for those states. But then Andhra Pradesh government is sitting on the proposal for about two years now. Besides the NRI, there are at least six similar proposals are pending including those of a Malaysian firm and a Goa Company.

Also, it is not easy to get permission for Casinos. The state government needs to get a regulatory nod from the Centre and the Navy. Earlier last year, there was also a proposal to setup an offshore casino near Visakhapatnam two years ago, but it has not moved beyond that. The state also needs to amend a law to allow these Casinos.
