The alliance will stay away from the by-election for the quota Local Bodies MLC seat of Vishakapatnam district.
TDP chief and CM Chandrababu decided to this extent. He made this clear in a teleconference held with party leaders.
The CM commented that winning is not difficult, but let’s do Gentleman politics.
TDP and alliance leaders approved and welcomed Chandrababu’s decision.
The deadline for filing nominations for the by-election ends today. In this background, Chandrababu told his decision to the party leaders.
The By-election was necessitated due to the disqualification of sitting MLC Vamsi Krishna Srinivas who jumped from YSR Congress to Janasena just before the elections.
YSR Congress has a huge lead in the voters of Visakha local bodies. There are 841 voters out of which 615 are from YSR Congress. TDP has only 215 votes.
The TDP boycotted the 2020 elections at that time. However, in many areas, the party’s fans and leaders contested and won.
But then, it will be a different ball game altogether with YSR Congress no longer in power. TDP can win if it takes this election prestigiously.
In fact, a similar scenario happened in 2017. Despite having an overwhelming majority in the Kadapa Local Bodies, Viveka was defeated by the TDP Candidate.
Botsa may have met with the same fate if Chandrababu took it seriously.
But then, it has to be seen if this decision will be productive or counter-productive for Jagan.
A senior like Botsa is going to the Council. There are reports that he asked for Council Opposition Leader as a Pre-condition for contesting this election.
If Botsa is made the LoP, it is very difficult for Jagan to control him in the Council.
YSR Congress is totally dead in the Assembly but it has a majority in the Council.
He will try to dictate terms for the party in the Council while Jagan is in Boycott-Mode in the Assembly.
To enrage Jagan, the Government will give extra importance to Botsa.
We will have to see if Jagan will tolerate this!
