Naidu’s Team Grows By Two

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has made two additions to his Cabinet. NMD Farooq and Kidari Sravan are inducted into the cabinet and the Governor Administered the Oath a little while ago. Kidari Sravan was given the Tribal Welfare Ministry while Farooq is given Health, Medicine, and Minority Welfare Portfolios.

These portfolios fell vacant after two BJP MLAs resigned from the Cabinet after TDP pulled out of the NDA Government. Kidari Sravan is the son of Kidari Sarveswara Rao who was killed by Maoists a couple of months ago. His son, Sravan was inducted into the cabinet without being an MLA or MLC.

This is only the second instance of someone inducting into the cabinet without being a member of either house after Harikrishna in 1995. Usually, in such cases, the member should be elected to either of the houses in six months after taking the oath. But since the Assembly Elections are less than Six Months away, Sravan may not have to face the elections.
