MP Byreddy Shabari expressed her anguish over the personal comments made by YSRCP leaders on TDP women leaders. The Nandyal MP said that objectionable talk against women leaders must not simply be considered bad language. It must be considered equal to sexual abuse, said Byreddy Shabari.
She said that women come into politics to develop the nation and not to be subjected to offensive comments by men with a patriarchal mindset. Byreddy said that the Central government must bring in a law to ensure that women don’t consider politics as punishment.
A separate law must be brought for women in politics, demanded Byreddy Shabari who spoke during the zero hour in Parliament.
YSRCP male leaders are making offensive comments against TDP women leaders. Women may not be physically strong, but we are emotionally much stronger than men. At a time when the nation is speaking of 33% reservations and women-centric development under the leadership of PM Modi and CM Chandrababu, such talk is hurtful, said Shabari.
What the YSRCP leaders spoke is not just bad language. It equals to sexual assault. I am speaking as a woman, a sister, a mother, a wife and a daughter. Such talk must not be tolerated. A new law must be brought to protect women in public life, said the Nandyal MP.
Henceforth, we will not take such talk. We will not keep quiet. They must know there shall be no delay in punishing those who talk in such callous manner, said Byreddy Shabari.
