CI Sankaraiah, the officer who handled the case during the death of ex-minister YS Vivekananda Reddy, has now issued legal notices to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. He accused the CM of repeatedly speaking against him in a disrespectful manner.
On September 18, Sankaraiah served the notices, and the issue surfaced on Tuesday. He demanded that Chandrababu apologise to him in the Assembly and also pay Rs 1.45 crore as compensation for damaging his reputation.
Sankaraiah came into focus during the investigation of Viveka’s murder. Chandrababu earlier alleged that under Sankaraiah’s watch, the accused removed fingerprints and blood traces. Following this, Sankaraiah was suspended in 2019 on charges of negligence.
During the probe, Sankaraiah initially told CBI that MP Avinash Reddy and his aide Sivasankara Reddy pressured him not to register a case. He claimed they warned him against allowing a post-mortem and asked him to state that Viveka had no injuries. But later, he failed to testify in front of the judge.
In October 2021, Sankaraiah was reinstated. CBI then informed the court that his testimony was altered due to the influence of the accused. Against this background, his legal notices to the CM are drawing wide debate in political circles. Sankaraiah is currently serving in VR of the Kurnool range.
