Viveka Case: What Is CBI Trying To Tell?

Vivekananda Reddy case CBI investigation

The Supreme Court recently heard the case of former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy’s murder. The CBI told the court it is ready to continue the investigation if ordered. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju informed that the petitioner is seeking further investigation in the case.

Senior advocate Siddhartha Luthra represented the petitioner. After arguments, the bench directed YS Sunitha to file another petition in the trial court regarding the CBI probe. The court allowed her two weeks to file it. The trial court must decide within eight weeks.

The Supreme Court also adjourned hearings on bail cancellation petitions until the trial court takes a decision. But questions arise on what exactly the CBI is trying to convey. Earlier, it said the investigation was complete, but now it claims readiness to probe further.

If the investigation is complete, a chargesheet naming the accused and motives should follow. The roles of MP Avinash Reddy and Jagan Mohan Reddy have neither been established nor ruled out. Until this is clarified, the probe cannot be considered complete.

The Supreme Court should have questioned the CBI more firmly on this contradiction. Further investigation should depend on the CBI’s answers, not just the petitioner’s request. For now, all eyes are on the trial court once YS Sunitha files her petition.
