CPI senior leader Narayana has triggered a debate with his comments on the arrest of Immadi Ravi, the person accused of running the piracy site iBomma. He said the problem lies in the system, not only in individuals involved in piracy.
Narayana questioned why a person with skill and talent would choose illegal platforms. He said weak education, lack of jobs and the high cost of entertainment push people towards such options. His remarks gained more attention when he admitted that he watched films on iBomma and only complained about the print quality.
He also said cinema ticket prices are too high. He pointed out that multiplex charges often cross Rs 600 to Rs 700 for one ticket, making it tough for middle class families to enjoy films in theatres. He accused a cinema mafia of spending big money on films and transferring the burden to the public.
Narayana said arresting Ravi will not solve piracy. He stated that if one person is removed, many others will take his place. He called for changes in the system to make entertainment affordable for all.
