Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender joined the Congress after winning on a BRS ticket. He later contested as an MP from Secunderabad but lost the election. The BRS has since filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking disqualification of defecting MLAs.
As the case is still pending, there is speculation that Danam Nagender could face disqualification. Despite this uncertainty, he has not held back from criticising the ruling Congress. His recent remarks have surprised both Congress and BRS leaders.
Danam strongly objected to the Congress government’s decision to increase GHMC wards from 150 to 300. He questioned how such a major decision was taken without consulting MLAs. He also raised concerns directly with the mayor.
According to Danam, the decision created confusion among MLAs and corporators. He expressed his dissatisfaction openly, even as he is expected to resign soon. His comments have added to the political unease within the Congress.
Monday marked the final day for submitting objections on GHMC delimitation. On Tuesday, Congress MLAs, MPs, and MLCs met mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi. During this meeting, Danam once again voiced his anger over the decision.
Danam stated that increasing the number of wards was a good move in principle. However, he said the lack of clarity created unnecessary confusion. He confirmed that he submitted a written representation to the mayor.
Danam’s insistence on not being consulted has left the Congress leadership puzzled. At the same time, the BRS is also trying to understand his shifting stance. His recent actions have raised questions about where his loyalties truly lie.
