Danam Nagender, the Khairatabad MLA, is back in the spotlight after making strong remarks amid the defection controversy. His comments come at a time when the Telangana Speaker dismissed the disqualification of five MLAs.
Danam, who is among the ten MLAs accused of defection, said he does not know who belongs to which party. He clearly stated that he is with the Congress, a remark that has triggered fresh political debate.
The statement gains importance as the Speaker is currently probing defection allegations. So far, Danam has not submitted any explanation to the Speaker, unlike some other MLAs facing similar scrutiny.
Danam won from the Khairatabad constituency on a BRS ticket, though he originally belonged to the Congress. He later joined BRS after it came to power, and returned to Congress after the 2023 elections.
After switching back, he contested the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat on a Congress ticket but lost. Despite this, Danam is seen as confident of winning again from Khairatabad if a by election is triggered.
This would happen if the Telangana Speaker disqualifies him for defecting from BRS to Congress. Political observers say Danam appears prepared for that possibility.
His latest remarks have intensified political buzz in Telangana. Reports also suggest that Danam has held talks with the Congress high command, seeking a ministerial berth, as attention now turns to the Speaker’s final decision.
