Delhi Liquor Scam: Aravind Kejriwal Gets Bail

Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal has been granted bail by the Supreme Court in the Delhi Excise Policy case. The Supreme Court passed its verdict this morning.

On September 5, the Supreme Court reserved its order on the bail petition after hearing arguments from counsels representing Kejriwal and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) due to his alleged connection with the Delhi Liquor Scam. However, he was granted a 15-day conditional bail in May to participate in the election campaign of his party, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

On June 1st, he was sent back to the Tihar Jail. On June 26, CBI arrested Kejriwal while he was in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate.

Later, he got bail in the case filed by the ED but didn’t succeed in getting bail in the CBI’s court. Initially, he filed a bail petition in the Delhi High Court. Later, he filed it in Apex Court and then the Supreme Court.

Today, the Supreme Court has granted him bail, allowing him to come out of jail after nearly six months without trial.

Just a few weeks ago, Delhi’s Former Deputy CM, Manish Sisodia and BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha were granted bail by the Supreme Court in the same case.
