The Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court denied bail to BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha once again. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja refused to grant bail for Kavitha in both the ED and CBI cases related to the Delhi Liquor Scam.
Kavitha was produced before the court this morning. In her bail plea, Kavitha stated that she is a star campaigner of the BRS Party and needs bail to participate in the election campaign. She pointed out that as a woman, she is eligible to get bail under PMLA Section 45.
Kavitha’s lawyer argued that she was arrested without proper evidence. He pointed out that CBI arrested her when she was in the ED’s custody.
On the other side, the ED and CBI lawyers argued that Kavitha is a primary accused in the case and she can influence the case if she gets out of jail. Thus, they asked the court to deny her bail.
After hearing arguments from all sides, the judge decided not to grant bail to Kavitha and sent her back to judicial custody at Tihar jail.
The Enforcement Directorate officials arrested Kavitha at her residence in Hyderabad on March 15. She was later taken into remand. A few weeks ago, CBI got permission to interrogate her in the same liquor scam case.
After interrogation, the CBI also arrested Kavitha upon the court’s orders. Kavitha applied for bail on multiple occasions but was denied bail in all instances.
