Don’t Arrest KTR Till Judgement: High Court

The Telangana High Court has ordered that BRS working president KT Rama Rao not be arrested until the judgment is delivered in the Formula E scam case.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau had earlier named KTR as A1 in the case, with IAS officer Aravind Kumar and former HMDA chief engineer BLN Reddy named as A2 and A3, respectively.

KTR filed a quash petition challenging the FIR. Following the first hearing, the court asked the ACB not to arrest KTR until December 30 and ordered instructing KTR to cooperate with the investigation.

The next hearing was initially scheduled for December 27 but was postponed to December 31. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its verdict and extended the order preventing KTR’s arrest until the judgment is delivered.

Advocate General A. Sudarshan Reddy, representing the ACB, argued that the former government paid Rs. 46 crores to the Formula E organizers before signing the contract. He called it a violation of rules and regulations.

He also informed the court that a statement from MAUD Commissioner Dana Kishore, who filed the case against KTR, had been recorded. He said that neither Aravind Kumar nor BLN Reddy had filed petitions regarding the case and that no arrests had been made thus far.

Dana Kishore’s advocate, CP Mohan Reddy, argued that all illegal transactions with the Formula E organizers were carried out under KTR’s supervision.

On the flip side, KTR’s lawyer, Siddharth Dave argued that the sections put by the ACB were not applicable to KTR. He said that KTR did not gain any financial benefit from the transactions.

Dave also pointed out that the FIR did not mention any evidence of corruption and argued that KTR should not have been included in the FIR. He requested the court to dismiss the FIR entirely.
