Eight Companies in Line for Vizag Airport

As many as Eight Companies have evinced interest in the construction of proposed Bhogapuram airport. GVK, GMR, TATA, Adani are the front runners for the airport construction which will happen in PPP model. Government will sit down for a meeting with those companies on 20th of this month. The first phase of the airport will cost 2200 Crore.

The selected developer should arrange this amount. For the first phase development of this project, 2800 acres have to be acquired and the government had already paid money for 2200 acres belonging to the farmers. Land acquisition for the other lands is also happening. Central government already cleared this airport and Environmental Clearance is yet to be obtained.

The state government is planning to begin the construction early next year. Bhogapuram Aerotropolis project comprises of an international airport, maintenance repair and overhaul facility and an aviation academy. The new airport is planned to ease the burden on Vishakapatnam airport which registered a whopping increase in passenger traffic after bifurcation.
