Elections Done, Funds Gone? Button Not Working

For the past two months, the YS Jagan government halted welfare schemes, intending to distribute funds just before the elections. However, the Election Commission intervened following a complaint from the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which argued that such timing amounted to bribery to sway votes in their favor.

Recently, the High Court ordered the government to immediately deposit welfare funds into the accounts of farmers, women, and students. Despite this directive and the conclusion of polling over 72 hours ago, the ruling party has shown no interest in disbursing these funds, raising doubts about their commitment to the welfare schemes.

There are no obstacles preventing the funds from being deposited now. Yet, no money has been transferred, revealing that the government’s previous enthusiasm for these beneficiaries may have been merely a strategy to secure votes.

Students, farmers, and women are increasingly frustrated with the government’s inaction and are questioning whether the promised funds will ever be deposited.

Specifics of the stalled welfare schemes include:

Vidyadeevena: Rs. 26.69 crore needs to be deposited for 33,400 students for the quarter starting March 1.

Financial Assistance for Women: 85,105 women require Rs. 159.57 crore (Rs. 18,750 per woman), with funds delayed for two months.

Input Subsidy: Rs. 25.24 crore is owed to 30,459 farmers who lost crops due to December 2023’s rain and cyclone.

EBC Nestam: Rs. 19.02 crore is due to 12,286 beneficiaries.

Aasara: Rs. 266.50 crore should be released to 2,56,316 people across 25,866 Dwakra communities as part of the fourth installment.

The affected groups are waiting for the government to fulfill its promises and deposit the funds without further delay.
