End of Indian Dry Spell, Sakshi Brings in Bronze

India has had a very dry run at the Rio Olympics this year with no medal to show for the 11 days of sports. But finally, this dry spell has come to an end after woman wrestler Sakshi Malik managed to cinch a bronze for India in the 58kg category.

This medal has come after a sensational 8-5 victory in the Play-off bout against Aisuluu Tynybekova. Sakshi won this eventful match after coming from behind. With this medal, 23 year old Sakshi from Rohtak has joined the ranks of Weightlifter Karnam Malleshwari (2000, Sydney), boxer MC Mary Kom (2012, London) and shuttler Saina Nehwal (2012, London) who are the only other women athletes from India who have managed to bring home medals for India in the Olympics.

This win has brought great cheer to the country after the 11 day long dry spell with no Olympic medals. Kudos to Sakshi Malik.
