Facelift for the Iconic Ambassador

Hindustan Ambassador was often referred to as the King of Indian Roads. It may be the longest served Motor Car in India during its long production run from 1958 to 2014. Indian Company DC2 now gave a facelift to the motoring icon to suit the modern times.

The previously Diesel vehicle will now run on Electricity and will be launched by the end of next year. However, the company is not allowed to use the name ‘Ambassador’ due to copyright issues. Hindustan Motors agreed to the sale of the Ambassador brand, including the trademarks, to PSA Group back in 2017.

The company reportedly has four prototypes ready in Switzerland and is planning to bring those units to India in June. They were supposed to be launched this month-end but the Coronavirus Lockdown in the country prompted a postponement.

The Electric Vehicles is going to come with four electric motors – one for each wheel – allowing for a zero to 60 km/h sprint time of four seconds. However, the final production version could adopt a lesser two-motor set up – one for each axle. Other details are yet to be revealed.
