Funds Crunch Hit Telangana Govt’s Prestigious Scheme?

Telangana Government seems to be in a severe financial crunch. The cash crunch is evident with the implementation of the government’s prestigious Rythu Bandhu scheme. The government was supposed to credit 5000 Rupees per acre for the farmers in the Kharif Season but around 40% of farmers are yet to get the money.

The scheme needed 6900 Crore this Kharif. The finance department is sitting on the bill of 3400 Crore regarding this scheme and as a result, 23,75,000 farmers are still waiting for the government assistance. The State Government is trying to get some leverage from the RBI to meet these expenses.

On the other side, there are reports coming in that the government has given verbal instructions to Tahsildars not to update the Land Records and in such a way, the beneficiaries are being cut down. To the farmers who are coming to them, the officials are saying that the records can not be updated due to technical issues in the Website.

Incidentally, even the Central Government has emulated the Rythu Bandhu scheme and launched Prime Minister Kishan Yojana which gives 6000 Rupees per annum for the farmers. Several states have also implemented similar schemes.
