Why This Fuss About KCR’s Tirumala Offerings?

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao offered ornaments worth 5.59 Crore to Lord Venkateswara Swamy in Tirumala the other day. While the regional media is silent on the issue for obvious issues, national media made a huge fuss about it asking how the public money can be spent on the personal vows of KCR in a secular state.

But then, there are few things that are to be considered here. The money is sanctioned by the endowments department which is the money collected from various temples. In our secular country, the governments control the temples and take a share of their revenues.

Interestingly, while the small temples do not get any help from the state governments, these funds will be used for appeasing minorities with various other schemes. For a change, the money of the temples is going back to a temple.

It would be good if the money would go to the needy temples but still, the fuss of the national media can not be ratified. A few days ago, Telangana went all out to provide financial assistance to ‘drivers of non-Hindu communities’ to own cars. No media did question why a secular state is funding schemes on the religious basis.
