Good Initiative: Anna Canteen in Every Mandal

In the Cabinet meet held on Tuesday, CM Chandrababu decided to open Anna canteens in all mandals of the state. It was decided that a separate committee would be organized to look into running, donations and supervision.

100 Anna canteens were started during the first phase on August 15, 2024. The TDP government launched 184 Anna canteens prior to 2019.

However, the YSRCP government shut them down and used the space for other purposes. Once the alliance government came to power, the CM has decided to start Anna canteens once again.

One meal at these canteens launched in honour of late NTR who was known as Anna, costs Rs 5. This means all 3 meals in a day come for Rs 15.

Anna canteens were first launched on September 11, 2018. Initially, the Akshaya Patra Foundation managed the canteens. While the government spends Rs 90 on the meals, they are heavily subsidized and provided at Rs 15 a day.
