Vizag: Land Identified For Google’s Data Center

The Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh government has identified 200 acres of land in Anandapuram, Vizag, for Google’s largest data centre project in Asia. The land transfer is expected to be completed by November.

As part of this project, a submarine cable landing station will also be set up near the data centre. These stations play a crucial role in connecting global internet infrastructure by receiving and relaying data from undersea cables.

Google is set to invest a massive $6 billion (over ₹50,000 crore) into this project. The data centre will have a capacity of 1 GW, making it one of the largest in the world.

Out of the total investment, around $2 billion will be allocated towards building a renewable energy facility. This facility will generate power specifically to support the energy needs of the data centre.

This is Google’s first major infrastructure investment in India under its parent company, Alphabet Inc. It’s part of Alphabet’s broader expansion in Southeast Asia, where they have already invested in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

For the Andhra Pradesh government, this marks a major milestone. CM Chandrababu Naidu has managed to attract a tech giant to the state, which could significantly boost the region’s economic and technological growth.
