Former minister, Siddipet MLA and BRS leader Harish Rao faced protests during his visit to the Gajwel-Pragnyapur submerged area. The incident happened ahead of the municipal elections scheduled in the state on February 11.
Residents of the R&D Colony submerged area gathered at the meeting venue before Harish Rao arrived. They raised slogans against Harish Rao saying ‘down down’. In response, BRS supporters raised slogans in his favour, increasing tensions.
Both groups confronted each other and refused to step back. The situation escalated when people from both sides threw chappals. The confrontation quickly turned serious, forcing police to step in.
Police initially tried to disperse the crowd peacefully. When tensions continued, they carried out a lathi charge. The groups were eventually dispersed and the situation came under control.
During the incident, Harish Rao remained at the Gajwel MLA camp office. He waited there until the situation became normal. The visit resumed only after calm returned.
Since the incident occurred just days before the municipal polls, Congress circles claim it reflects public sentiment against BRS. The political atmosphere in the region remains tense ahead of elections.
