Hurdles for Medha towers to rescue AP?

We all know that Andhra Pradesh government is mooting the idea of shifting some of its government machinery to Medha Towers in Gannavaram as a temporary accommodation. Medha Towers was constructed during previous government regime to house IT companies. The building has all the necessary facilities like sufficient parking area, 24×7 power backup and centralized air-conditioner facilities. Another advantage is the foolproof security mechanism of the tower.

Medha Towers is a notified IT SEZ. There were earlier four companies operating here and one recently moved out. Three companies operating here will lose their Tax concessions if they move out. So it has to be sorted out and also these companies will have to be shown alternative space which are to be ideal to them.

The government is yet to approach the companies for their consent. Once they give that, it should be communicated to the Vizag SEZ (VSEZ) commissioner at Visakhapatnam to begin the process of denotifying the ITSEZ. And then Union Ministry of Commerce will take the final call on the basis of the VSEZ commissioner’s report.
