Hyderabad Falls Behind Pune In The ‘Game’

International Gaming Bigwigs who used to zero in on Hyderabad as their lone Indian destination for setting up their studios, slowly shut shop in the city and moved ahead to Pune. French Game developer Gameloft and online social gaming giant, Playdom Inc, headquartered in California left Hyderabad in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

A report says that for every 15 new Gaming Companies coming to Hyderabad, 25 are leaving the city. This is not only the case with the global players but also city-based indie game developers. Pune is said to be their next stop due to larger resource base and proximity to Mumbai where there is much cosmopolitan culture.

There is a dearth of employees with an appropriate skillset in Hyderabad and then there is also a perception among graduates here that delving into the gaming industry would limit their career growth. The industry also complains about the state government that was not quite open to the idea of a gaming culture,
