Jagan’s Lifeline Can Become A Curse?

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met with a humiliating defeat in the recent Assembly elections.

From 151 seats in the state Assembly, Jagan’s party has fallen to just eleven.

To make things worse, the NDA Government in Delhi depends on the Sixteen TDP MPs of Chandrababu Naidu. The impending cases on Jagan and Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case are giving sleepless nights to the YSR Congress.

However, the YSR Congress has eleven MPs in the Rajya Sabha. BJP has only 86 members in the Upper House falling short of the majority.

Jagan feels BJP will need his help to pass crucial bills in the Rajya Sabha and so will spare him from all cases.

But then, it is not as easy as it appears. More than passing the bills in Rajya Sabha, keeping its majority in Lok Sabha is important for Narendra Modi.

So, it can not keep saving Jagan like how it did between 2019 and 2024.

Moreover, Chandrababu Naidu just won the election with a thumping majority and Jagan has no future in Andhra Pradesh. So, the BJP is unlikely to foil terms with Chandrababu Naidu.

The middle ground in this issue is muzzling the YSR Congress by taking its Rajya Sabha MPs and leaving Jagan’s cases to his fate.

So, having eleven Rajya Sabha MPs was supposed to be a lifeline for Jagan but it can turn out to be a curse.

If the Rajya Sabha MPs start leaving the party, it will appear like the party is getting weaker. That would be counterproductive to the already damaged public perception about the YSR Congress.
