Official: Kavitha Suspended From BRS

In a major political development, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has suspended MLC K. Kavitha, daughter of party chief and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).

This decision comes after Kavitha reportedly made controversial comments about former minister Harish Rao and former MP Santosh Kumar. A formal statement was issued by the party, signed by General Secretary T. Ravindra Rao and Disciplinary Affairs General Secretary Soma Bharat Kumar.

The press note also confirmed that Kavitha’s suspension was made on the instructions of KCR himself. The move has stirred political circles and created shockwaves within the party ranks.

BRS is currently facing a crisis of existence. After a complete washout in the recent Parliamentary elections, the party is preparing for crucial local body elections. Adding to the pressure is the looming CBI investigation into the Kaleshwaram Project.

There is speculation that the BJP may absorb the BRS or that a merger could be forced, given the political instability. At such a critical time, internal family disputes have made the party’s situation even more complicated.

Instead of holding protests against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy or raising voices over the Kaleshwaram Project allegations, party workers are now seen protesting against one of their own, Kavitha. This unusual turn of events has left many political observers surprised.

There are strong rumours that Kavitha might launch her own political party soon. Reports suggest she may address the media shortly to announce her next steps.

The situation draws parallels to what happened in Andhra Pradesh with Y. S. Sharmila and Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. While Jagan went on to form a successful political party, Sharmila’s efforts did not take off.

However, there is one key difference. Kavitha has prior political experience and was an active figure in the Telangana statehood agitation. Whether that will work in her favour remains to be seen.
