TG HC Says No Action on KCR, Harish Rao

KCR and Harish Rao at Telangana Assembly

In a major setback to the Revanth Reddy government, the Telangana High Court has directed that no action be taken against K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and T. Harish Rao based on the Kaleshwaram Commission’s report.

The Congress-led state government had recently handed over the Kaleshwaram project inquiry to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), hoping to pursue legal action against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders KCR and Harish Rao.

Speculation had been growing since Monday over possible arrests of the two BRS leaders, creating a tense political environment in Telangana.

KCR and Harish Rao had filed a petition requesting the court to halt any action based on the report submitted by the P.C. Ghose Commission. Their legal team argued that such steps were premature.

After hearing the arguments, the Telangana High Court agreed to their plea and postponed the hearing to October 7, after the Dussehra holidays.

Until then, the court clearly stated that no action should be taken against KCR or Harish Rao in connection with the Kaleshwaram project findings.

Meanwhile, despite the court’s stay, the Revanth Reddy government has now written to the Central government requesting a CBI inquiry based on a separate report from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA).

This move indicates that the state government is still keen to investigate alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.
