Will KCR Set His Ego Aside At Least Now?

Former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao (KCR) has largely remained inactive in politics since his defeat in the 2023 elections. Notably, he has avoided the Assembly, attending only once in the past two years—and that too without speaking.

KCR’s absence is being seen as reluctance to face Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in the Assembly, where he could be confronted and potentially cornered. In his absence, KTR and Harish Rao have been managing proceedings for the BRS.

Now, the situation has reached a critical point.

The Revanth Reddy-led government is preparing to table the PC Ghose Commission report in the Assembly. The report outlines serious procedural and financial irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project—one of the flagship initiatives during KCR’s regime.

The report openly states that KCR is either directly or indirectly responsible for the irregularities. It also names 19 senior officials and engineers who could face disciplinary or legal action.

This Assembly session could be the last opportunity for KCR to defend himself publicly and create a political narrative before potential legal trouble. Reports suggest that he recently held a meeting at his Erravelli farmhouse, preparing BRS leaders for the possibility of his arrest—possibly in September.

While former Irrigation Minister Harish Rao has made presentations defending the project, they haven’t managed to sway public opinion or shift the narrative in favor of BRS. It is now widely believed that only KCR himself can attempt damage control.

If KCR remains silent, it could severely weaken BRS’s position and signal political retreat. But if he chooses to attend the Assembly and speak up, it might help him shape public discourse—especially if legal action is imminent.

So, the big question remains:
Will KCR set aside his ego and step into the Assembly to face the heat?
